Nearly all Christians know what it means to prayto speak to God in fellowship with Him. Many also regularly read the Bible. Not many, though, are familiar with the scriptural practice of pray-reading*, or using the Bible as the content of ones prayer, praise, and petition to the Lord. Pray-reading is not a rigid method, ritual, or form; rather it is a genuine prayer to the Lord using His Word (Appeal 8). Not only does the Bible explicitly teach that Gods Word and mans prayer should accompany one another (Ephesians 6:17-18; John 15:7), but it also provides many Old and New Testament examples of men of God who prayed with Gods Word. Prayer is greatly enriched and uplifted by using the Word. In addition, much revelation and supply of the divine life is received by touching the essence of the Bible through prayer. This life-supply then becomes the means by which believers are able to grow in life (1 Peter 2:2). Many seekers of the Lord throughout the centuries have confirmed this Biblical practice by testifying of the nourishment, light, and strengthening they have received through pray-reading Gods Word.
